ABOUT US
Under the Same Sun is a youth-led initiative founded by Sophie Komiss, a senior at The Calhoun School in New York City. With deep family roots in Ukraine and a personal connection to diabetes, Sophie launched this campaign to support displaced Ukrainian children living with chronic illnesses amid the ongoing war.
The name Under the Same Sun reflects a simple but powerful truth: we all live under the same sky, yet not all of us wake up to peace and stability. While many enjoy their daily lives under a calm, blue sky, Ukrainian children are waking up to the sound of drones, missles, and collapsing homes. War has stolen their sense of safety, displaced their families, and - most critically for those with chronic conditions - cut off access to life-saving medical resources.
On September 20, 2025, Sophie organized a signature drive and charity event to raise awareness and funds for displaced Ukrainian children with diabetes. She partnered with doTERRA, one of the world’s largest wellness companies, to launch a meaningful campaign: for every product purchased through Under the Same Sun, 10% of the profits are donated to the Ukrainian nonprofit For a Modern Hospital. This organization distributes essential medical supplies - like insulin pumps and glucometers - to children’s hospitals across Ukraine.

Our mission is simple: to shine a light of hope on those who need it most. Because every child - no matter where they were born - deserves a chance to live, grow, and thrive under the same sun.
